After the rightful outraged over Paula Deans racial statements why isn't there any outrage over Alec Baldwins bigoted tweets this week?

Nobody here is attacking him either. [forums.macresource.com]

He may be funnier and more talented that Paula Deen, and he's almost certainly more liberal, but he's every bit as vile a person if not more so.

bruceko makes a very good point.

Alec Baldwin is spokesperson for CapitolOne. Everything he earns from that gig selling CapitolOne is donated to arts and cultural enterprises. What's the former TV cook done with her money?

Quote
Alec Baldwin has gifted the New York Philharmonic a cool $1 million to honor Zarin Mehta, the orchestra’s departing president and executive director. Mr. Mehta, whom musical director Alan Gilbert has credited with supporting cutting edge programming choices like last week’s concerts at the Park Avenue Armory, will leave in August 2012 when his contract expires. The money is proceeds from Mr. Baldwin’s Capital One Bank commercials, and part of ongoing donations from money he’s earned from those ads to his favorite cultural institutions. This has also involved synergy with Capital One Bank itself making donations, as described in a Wall Street Journal news item last year about the actor’s philanthropic activities.

Not finding any stories on this for some reason.

So, because he donates to causes that you ostensibly like or support, his actions are "okay"?

And people here think they're not as prejudiced as the right...

according to former President Carter, she's quite the philanthropist in her native Savannah, and deserves credit for it.

It's a mystery why Alec Baldwin has work after his abusive telephone messages to his young daughter were made public. The guy has serious anger management problems. This latest thing is frankly nothing, in my view, compared with that.
But he's apologized and vowed to staff off Twitter permanently.
But who knows, maybe he's finally jumped the shark this time.

A lot of people are mad at Alec Baldwin, that's why brucko even knows about it.

Just say it: Alec Baldwin needs to go away now. C'mon. You can do it.

I am selfishly sorry that Baldwin is such a complete and total horse's arse because I love him on 30 Rock. It won't change my love for the show, I just wish he was worthy of Jack Donaghy.

And it's true, my social media feeds have not exploded in outrage about Baldwin. If it wasn't for HuffPo's relentless need to print celebrity stories, I'm not sure that I'd know about it.

That was less an endorsement of Baldwin than an attempt to show the complexity that is a person, any person. Since the release of Baldwins voice mail eviscerating his 13-year old daughter, you'll find precious few defending Baldwin's character.

His politics aren't a part of this anymore than Ms. Dean's politics are a part of her faux pas.

Interesting that you finished your reply by tacitly acknowledging that prejudices flow throughout the right wing. I suppose you'd wish other segments of society were just the same as a way to ameliorate your own quilt.

Slow on the heavy thumbed typing, this was in response to MAM.

The "real" racists struck down section 4 of the voting rights act. Alec Baldwin and Paula Deen, neither of whom hate black people or gay people, just said stupid things. They don't make or influence real policy in any way shape or form. Both should apologize, make amends and move on. They're easy to forgive. Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia? Hell no. Can we say Hell on this forum?

Why not? If it's Slash it's like picking up where we left off at DM then at AS and then later here.

Dueling with lightweights may be a bit unfair, even if it is fun.

Are you surprised? Do you think I'm as narrow-minded as the liberal denizens of this forum who conclude that everyone else is a Tea Partier? I have no illusions regarding prejudices. What I do see here on a nearly daily basis is the proposition that the liberals here are, somehow, open-minded and free-thinking compared to their conservative counterparts - all while demonstrating the same prejudiced characteristics.

Terrible Post.... the continuous assumption that politics has a hidden door into the Supreme court is offensive to the court an its solemn mission. Just because you disagree with the opinion doesn't mean it's somehow tainted by horrible biases.

How do you take DOMA and Prop 8 into consideration in your view of the SCOTUS ?

Like the narrow-minded conservatives I know who are gnashing their teeth over DOMA and Prop 8.

The Supreme Court (with all of its faults and problems) is only "good" and "just" when their decisions fall in line with whomever's beliefs. Otherwise, they're the litany of slurs.

How to take DOMA and Prop 8 into consideration of a view of the Roberts court??
As an anomaly and a surprise, not the central theme. The central theme of this court has been removal or weakening of rights. Voting, affirmative action, privacy, search and seizure, work place discrimination, taking away the right to sue, among other things.

Justice Thomas, who absent the equal rights act, would never in a lifetime have become a Justice. To the day he dies he should be ashamed of this vote.

He's like an bought and paid for automaton, wind him up, point him in a direction and let him vote.

It's always easier to lay the blame elsewhere than to look at yourself. Simply because conservatives act like idiots is not license to act the same because you oppose their position. Each of us can only control how we think and act. If we act like the opponent then nothing can be accomplished.

Which is exactly what has been happening in our nation lately.

All my time in law school and we never learned about the "equal rights act." Is this a law that's been passed recently? Or just in your imagination?
