ACA: No commerce between state lines. Heard today

Rush Limbaugh was perplexed why Insurance companies could not sell across state lines which was something Trump and every other person trumpeted. The Insurance companys will have to sell ACA within state lines. WHY was this apparently currently left out?

I guess we will have to wait and see if this is true.

I think the industry types want you to be able to buy insurance across state lines. Then they base their business in the state with the least regulations. I think that is why so many banks are headquartered in Delaware, lax regulations.

Individual states have different regulations because they have been passing laws piecemeal to keep the insurance companies from screwing over its citizens.

Illinois.

And I know this from experience. The rep from the attorney general's office from my state said that he was powerless to go after my old insurance company because although they were licensed in my state and sold policies in my state to residents of my state, a tiny little line in a document only available on an unlinked page on the insurance company website said that they issued their policies from Illinois and were governed under the laws in Illinois. When we tried to get Illinois to act, they said they don't prosecute insurance companies on policies sold out of state.

The ACA specifically addressed that scenario.

This part ACA was to be changed to lower costs. But now it has not been addressed and changed to allow Insurance across state lines according to what I heard. A reversal of Republican promises.

Health insurance sold across state lines is a bad idea. Even with single-payer Medicare, you can't buy across state lines (although you can take a Medicare supplement with you if you move--but the same is not true of Medicare Advantage). Under the current (non-single-payer) system buying across state lines would be horrible for everyone--except maybe the insurance companies. It's not like buying a toaster or a TV across state lines.

Here's the problem: doctors and hospitals. You buy your health insurance from Arizona and got a great price but you live in Pennsylvania. Guess what, hardly any doctors in Pennsylvania accept your insurance. Now what?

You are correct. States say regulations in their state for Insurance companies would not apply for out of state insurance companies.

State's rights. As opposed to State's wrongs.

sadly the GOP keeps trying to play both sides of the same argument.
Sort of like playing in the middle of the road. Good way to get hit by traffic going in either direction.
