Barack Obama's Speech Bashes the GOP's '50th or 60th' Attempt to Repeal Obamacare

So when I see those people trying to undo that hard-won progress, for the 50th or 60th time, with bills that would raise costs or reduce coverage, or roll back protections for older Americans or people with pre-existing conditions – the cancer survivor, the expecting mom, or the child with autism, or asthma, for whom coverage once again would be almost unattainable… it is aggravating.

And all of this being done without any demonstrable economic, or actuarial, or plain common sense rationale — it frustrates. And it’s certainly frustrating to have to mobilize every couple months to keep our leaders from inflicting real human suffering on our constituents. But… typically that’s how progress is won. And how progress is maintained, on every issue, we have to stand up for each other, recognize that progress is never inevitable, that it often can be fragile, it’s in need of constant renewal, and our individual progress and our collective progress depends on our willingness to roll up our sleeves and work, and not be afraid to work.

Pres. Obama was reading his speech on paper. He was glancing down every single sentence. Are they short TelePrompTers?

Barack's speech both inspired me and elevated me. I am ready to help. The put down of republican efforts to destroy healthcare was the least important part of the speech.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Glad to see he's speaking out, and broken the mold of the Former Presidents Who Pretend Everything's OK. There's certainly no playbook today.

Obama is the first young former President without a legacy tarnished by a scandal or a failed re-election bid since...um, Teddy Roosevelt?

He needs to get out in front again … knew he wouldn't be able to sit silently much longer. There's a little while where a person just needs to sit and recuperate from the hard work. But we should expect to hear even more from him in the near future. It looks like 9 months has been enough "down time".

And it's pretty easy to find fault with the butthead in the oval orifice right now.

Be that as it may, it's great to have him firing back at last.
