I'd like to see an example. I've never heard of limiting an eligible candidate that hit all of the marks before.

It seems wrong, but it's perfectly legal. State parties are allowed to say who they want (and don't want) on the ballot to represent them.
SC, AZ, NV and KS so far have all decided not to have GOP primaries in order to foil Trump's rivals. So Mark Sanford can't even compete in his own state.

Minnesota will allow write-ins though and I guarantee a lot of Minnesotans will write-in someone other than Trump. He is very unpopular there.

I guess now that I think about it and see this, they are "private" entities.

The GOP is in total damage control viv a`vis the only candidate that can be their nominee. Lyndon Johnson was so unpopular during his re-election bid he came close to losing the New Hampshire primary to Gene McCarthy (who dat?) That was unheard of for a sitting President and led to his decision to no longer seek the nomination.

The establishment GOP fears the possibility of their nominee showing any sign of weakness anywhere, something that could lead to weakness everywhere, the deep South excepted. Though they've shown not only a willingness but in fact an eagerness to suppress vote before, this'll be the first time they use that tactic against their own supporters.

They'll more than likely not report write-in votes either.
