changed my mind?!.....Chuck Woolery deletes Twitter after his son catches coronavirus......
Posted by: NewtonMP2100

.....he tweets that his son has tested positive.....then his twitter account disappears....

.....he previously went on rant about how coronavirus was a hoax/fake news......

....Late Monday, Woolery apparently shared a less combative message on Twitter saying, “To further clarify and add perspective, Covid-19 is real and it is here. My son tested positive for the virus, and I feel for of those suffering and especially for those who have lost loved ones.”

It’s unclear whether his son’s condition, the reactions to his original tweet or something else prompted Woolery or Twitter to remove his account......

Typical "conservative". The only time compassion and understanding applies is when it hits home. See Dick Cheney's turnaround on equal rights for homosexuals.

Huh. He was still spewing tweets last night about this time. Maybe his kid took a turn for the worse and he thought it was his online karma partly responsible.

Plenty of high-profile twitter hacks in the last 24 hours. I take such a turnaround with caution.

Twitter is providing an example of why vote by mail would work but on line voting is a ways out.

I will NEVER 'vote' for online voting. May as well call an end to our experiment in representative democracy and hand the control over the AIs first.

Snopes says this appears to be real.

Twitter word is that Twitter was about to suspend the account for sharing false facts around COVID-19 anyway.

That is a strawman argument. Every electronic funds transfer is transparent to me, and I can follow and appeal mistakes.

No way such an oversight will come to voting. And it shouldn't. Specific votes are supposed to be anonymous.

So something that transparent, with a unique encrypted token as the last step to submit your ballot is totally unacceptable? Because that would be pretty much the digital version of how my state does Vote By Mail.

What does that have to do with anything? It's a semi-anonymized payment system with hashes and encryption. Completely different thing. Fewer parties involved in the back-end. Far more secure.

...The most secure e-voting system in the world has been hacked and data on 750,000 people was vulnerable, which compromised everything from purchases to contractual agreements to e-voting. And that system didn't have lobbyists vying for the cheapest solution to the problem at the greatest expense (which is how things work in this country).

What's wrong with paper ballots, especially for consequential elections like President, etc? Far harder to hack. And will still be readable in 30 years.

I recall the paper ballot days when candidates would have precinct or poll watchers checking the tabulators, you had to have an eagle-eye to notice the guy with a piece of lead under his fingernail.

It is tough to get people age 17-29 off their phones and deal with voting.

Oh goodie. A classic paper ballot vs electronic voting discussion.

I don’t know what they used prior to Univac or whatever, but everything has been funneled into a computer for decades. Just decide where you’d like to draw the line, but logically ya take all computers out of the equation if you don’t trust any one of them. Let me know if you’re unsure of how any of them may be compromised or unaccounted for.

And that system didn't have lobbyists vying for the cheapest solution to the problem at the greatest expense (which is how things work in this country).

OK, that post was a whole bunch of FUD based on the ZDNet articles. The system was never breached by a cyberattack, the flaw was discovered by Czech researchers and the Estonian government went right to work to fix it. 760,000 people had to be locked out of part of the system due to Estonia needing to get the fix into the hands of the users. Early on too many users flooded the government agency who were making the changes to the user accounts.

Quote
ZDNet
The hardware behind the ID cards was found to be vulnerable to attacks, which could theoretically have led to identity thefts of Estonian citizens and also e-residents, something which its government has denied occurring.

Quote
ZDNet
In August this year a group of Czech researchers informed ISA of a security risk they had discovered, related to the Gemalto chips. Estonian experts started immediately assessing the risks.

Quote
ZDNet
As a precaution, Estonia restricted access to Estonian ID-card public-key database to prevent illegal use, because without the public key it's not possible to use this security flaw to attack the cards.

Dozens of IT specialists started immediately working around the clock to solve the issue and create the updates for certificates, which would eliminate the danger, and build a system that could update the certificates as quickly as possible.

Quote
ZDNet
On October 25, the ISA announced that the solution to update the certificates was ready to use. Estonian ID card owners rushed to update their certificates online, leaving Police and Border Guard offices all over Estonia with long lines of people waiting to get their patches.

But the system couldn't cope with the high level of requests and crashed several times, making the rate of updates slower than the ISA had hoped.

As days went by and the danger of receiving attacks exploiting the security flaws loomed larger, a drastic decision was made by the government.

It endorsed the proposal by the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board and the Information System Authority to block the certificates of ID cards at risk on November 3.

That decision meant that the 760,000 ID cards issued after October 16, 2014 could only be used for identification and travel. Access to e-services such as the health registry, banking or tax systems was restricted until the certificates had been updated.

To guarantee that e-government continued to function, about 35,000 people who have to use their ID card for their work, such as doctors, justice officials, and civil servants, were to be updated first.
