My European colleagues and friends are astounded about everything this past 3+ years...

Give me liberty, or give me death …

Great, you can have both!
Funny how it is your choice about your body as concerns masks, but not other things, if you get my drift.

their point is to reverse the question - 'how can killing babies be a right, but not a maskless existence?' If you are allowed to kill babies, I should be allowed to not wear a @#$%& mask.
Best to not engage at all...

And mask requirements are just like no smoking restrictions, it's to protect the people around you.
Exactly, why is this so hard for some people to understand?

People are comfortable with what they are familiar with. Our routines have been severely jarred and any retreat to 'the past' will be pursued.
Add in those who look to authority figures telling them what they want hear. Past surveys have shown reliance on authority figures is a characteristic of the GOP group. Greater belief on gossip and rumors as opposed to 'establishment sources' drags in large numbers from elsewhere.
That being said, I can't imagine that the various populations in Europe are any more enlightened, educated or superstition-free than Americans.
Perhaps it has to do with the relationship between the people and their governments in health matters

Yeah, I see that now. I don’t expect clever things from the far right, so I took them literally.
If it was just their body that might get sick and die, fine, do what you will, but their body getting others sick is the point they refuse to see.

They’ll listen to simple instruction from a central source. The only reason the Walmart here got nearly everyone in this small town to wear a mask is because they told them to do so. If anyone thinks a central authority isn’t a thing listened to they’re crazy.
