It seems so random it’s baffling.

Could this be some attempt to preemptively mute any internal pushback on the military’s recent declarations that they will in no way intervene in election issues?

The Pentagon has ordered Stars and Stripes to shut down for no good reason
Trump wants to pull funding from Stars and Stripes, a newspaper for American troops that began in the Civil War and has been serving our soldiers.

I would imagine that they are prohibited by both precedent and statute from being partisan, but do they publish letters from servicepeople?

This certainly smells like a Trumpian response to some perceived slight.

Or...maybe Vladimir wanted proof that his puppet would do his bidding, no matter what. wink smiley

The last publication will be Sept 30 so S&S will not be reporting who won the election to soldiers all over the world.

On Friday morning, news broke that the Pentagon had ordered the closure of the 160-year-old Stars and Stripes newspaper at the end of September. President Trump Tweeted that his administration "will NOT be cutting funding" for the publication.

Of course that could be just another lie, we'll see!

That is weird, it can't possibly be budget-related as Esper claims.

Yes Biden's administration can bring it back but I'm worried about military personnel getting info about the election if they're overseas. There has already been talk about difficulty for them to vote this year.

This story coming out the day after the Atlantic article was really bad for Trump. So he is trying to spin this as he, personally, rescuing Stars & Stripes from a budget-related death. Trump loves to make a problem and then "fix" it. He's a hero in his own mind.
