Leave the plexiglass for a key visual around COVID.

But if I were KH, I would insist on seeing the Pence test results herself.

That is way too close and those plexiglas screens look to be performance art. Trump/Pence are coming from a den of Covid-infested staffers and should be quarantined, not placed in a room with the future president and vice-president. Also, Trump and Pence have a vested interest in transferring their infections to the dems. I wouldn't doubt that they've discussed how best to do this.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

I wonder if the layout was done for spite since the Democrats made a big deal about the plexiglass. " OK, here's your stupid plexiglass - enjoy the close layout."

I would prefer that Kamala not have to be in the same building with someone from the Super Spreadator team, but if they have to be this seems OK.

Once the vice-presidential debate begins — provided both candidates actually show up — Mr. Pence and Ms. Harris will be seated 12 feet 3 inches apart, with Ms. Page seated a similar distance from them.

As at last week’s presidential debate between Mr. Trump and Joseph R. Biden Jr., there will be no handshake “or physical greeting” by the two vice presidential candidates, according to the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Pence is the one demanding to be seated.
