Mr Downtown
Why cannot 45 simply pardon himself for any federal crimes?

I think Pence will become president for a week and pardon the Dumpster fire and family for all federal crimes. It is a risky move but he is a good poodle and would probably do it to say that he is the real 46th president.

"Let them try it and the GOP is done."
It won't phase them. Things have changed since the 70's.

It's very unlikely that the U.S Justice Department will pursue criminal prosecution against the former president.
It would be so politically radioactive as to render the Biden administration paralyzed, and the electorate more divided and angry than ever.
New York state has plenty of crimes to investigate and prosecute, and there's no reason not to let those play out.

Mr. Pence, if you pardon Mr. Trump, we will prosecute you. If, however, you do NOT, we will allow you and Mother to retire to your plantation.
