"Let’s remember that tens of millions of people voted for the status quo, even when it meant supporting lies, hate, chaos, and division," she wrote on social media Saturday. "We’ve got a lot of work to do to reach out to these folks in the years ahead and connect with them on what unites us."
There's a lot of tension built into that simple, true statement. To the degree to which her statement about "lies, hate, chaos and division" is true, those who have been hurt by those lies, hate, chaos and division are victims. And what Biden and Michelle Obama are asking is that the victims reach out a hand to the victimizers. But there's a lot of work to do to overcome the resentment of a victim being asked to play nice with those that they feel have victimized them. But if they are able to reach out, how will it be taken by Trump supporters?
You colorfully comment, "70 million people think that stench is the aroma of extreme success and high quality". Trump supporters do not see themselves as victimizers, rather they seem themselves as the victims of elite liberal victimizers. Trump's presidency is heavy with white grievance politics. They are not going to want to reach out to those they feel have been victimizing them. If anything, they are much less likely to want to reach out than the other way around.
