Sweden's 6,406 deaths compare awfully to tolls in neighbor nations that did lockdowns:
Denmark 699
Lithuania 386
Finland 375
Norway 306
Latvia 153
Estonia 88
Iceland 26
Even adjusting for population sizes, Sweden's flirtation w/"herd immunity" was tragic

Yes the Swedes' arrogant experiment was an unmitigated disaster. Glad they've abandoned that idea.

The ONLY good part of that experiment is that now we know for certain it doesn't work.

Even Sweden pulled back. If they had stuck to their guns, likely 2-3x those death numbers.

Well, in fairness to Sweden, they readily admitted that there would be more deaths because they were always playing the long game. They made that abundantly clear multiple times.

However, they completely blew it with not requiring masks and by not taking care of the elderly (much like the US has not taken care of the elderly, either).

Admitting they were taking a gamble with lives isn't exactly what they did, much like Trump they declared they knew what they were doing - they didn't. Even when the stats proved them wrong they persisted in a wrongheaded effort.

Sweden is a homogeneous society with a strong tradition of trust in government. Had they acknowledged their mistake when this data first became available instead of doubling down, they might have averted thousands of unnecessary deaths.
