Of the 4,998,482 ballots cast in the race between Trump and President-elect Joe Biden, the president lost by 12,670 votes, or about 0.26 percentage points. State law allows a losing candidate within 0.5 percentage points to ask for a recount within two business days of certification.

While thousands of workers spent most of the last week hand-counting every vote as part of a newly required statewide risk-limiting audit, this recount will be different.

The law calls for a recount to be conducted by retabulating every ballot through a scanner, the same way they were originally counted in the days following the Nov. 3 election.

And:

The recount process is expected to take several days, with officials in Atlanta's Fulton County estimating anywhere from five to nine days of eight-hour shifts, with multiple scanners to get through more than half a million votes.

The machine recount is unlikely to change the results. It is also more accurate than the hand-count audit, which confirmed Biden's victory over Trump and was within 0.10% of the original number of ballots counted.

There has better be a lot of A) possessed ballot scanners, or B) sleeper agents in heavily Democratic districts ready to commit felonies to falsify results if the totals are going to change significantly.

I'm all for that. Local auto race tracks around me learned years ago this nice little trick. All cars are inspected for the nights racing, however, it IS possible for someone to pull a fast one and make unapproved alterations after inspection. So if you feel strongly enough that the winner or other top finisher cheated, you put up a set amount of money to have the track reinspect. If cheating happened, you get your money back. If nothing found, the team who's car was torn down gets the cash for the inconvenience.
Something similar would work fine here in election protest land.

I think it's OK for the first count to be at government expense. After all, there are close elections even in "normal" times. But repeatedly demanding counts to gum up the works is not how they are supposed to be used.

Agree. Georgia law allows for taxpayer funded recounts in these situations including this second recount. Biden will win again. Trump will have lost Georgia more times in 3 weeks than Obama did in 8 years.
