Trump campaign loses appeal over Pennsylvania race

President Trump’s campaign on Friday lost its appeal in the legal battle to contest Pennsylvania’s already-certified election results.

A federal appeals court in Philadelphia upheld a previous ruling that dismissed the campaign’s case to prevent Pennsylvania from certifying its election results showing former Vice President Joe Biden winning the state.

The three-judge panel of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals determined that “the Campaign’s claims [of widespread voter fraud in the state] have no merit,” according to the court’s opinion.

“Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy,” Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, wrote in the 21-page opinion, according to the AP.

“Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here.”

The three judges, all appointed by Republican presidents, determined that District Judge Matthew Brann’s order from last week was justified in rejecting the Trump’s campaign’s lawsuit; however, the case could still reach the Supreme Court if the campaign continues to appeal.

I think he's now trying to find out who the chancellor of the electoral college is, and if he can make a large "donation" to the college.

I personally am still a little bit nervous. I am afraid they do some tricks we didn't consider.

But the appeals court’s opinion went further, stating in stark terms that Trump’s legal effort had no chance of succeeding. “The campaign cannot win this lawsuit,” it said.

“No federal law requires poll watchers or specifies where they must live or how close they may stand when votes are counted. Nor does federal law govern whether to count ballots with minor state-law defects or let voters cure those defects,” Bibas wrote.

If he's going to try to keep selling the idea that there was a huge amount of fraud that led to Biden getting more votes, then he has to either ignore the courts when he spittles out a blaming fit or also blame the courts. I doubt he will name individual judges he nominated to federal courts, but I think there's a pretty good chance that he won't be able to resist blaming the courts in general.

Even if they are in his back pocket, SCOTUS, like any court, requires some semblance of evidence or at least a rational argument and the Trump campaign has yet to offer either.

Okay, okay, is that better?

I can't imagine how you would think that this election was worse than 2000. The florida vote was decided by the Supreme Court - a state election was decided in FEDERAL court. So far in 2020, all state elections have been certified and conclusive. Nothing is being changed. Now if you want to call the maneuvers of the repubs in 2020, sure - YEAH! They are way worse than in 2000, but the results of the election is quite clear.

The appeals will eventually reach the SCOTUS. We'll see how much justice is left in that branch.

Rudi G seemed to imply that all that litigating in Pennsylvania was just to create a case that will eventually be appealed to the Supreme Court. Assuming that this was (and continues to be) their strategy, then they are running out of time and would have to file their case before the electoral votes are counted in front of the joint session of congress in the middle of December. The authority of congress over the determination of the electoral votes seems to be pretty clear from the wording of the Constitution, so any attempt to overthrow that rule would be a pretty clear coup attempt by the Scotus. At least for Roberts, maintaining respect for the integrity of the court seems to be a major issue, so it would seem to be awfully hard to cobble together 5 people who are ready to engage in the equivalent of treason.
