Nothing to worry about. Mike Pence, the head of the Virus Task Force, which prevented all of this, is getting his vaccine shot on Friday.

This will enable him to keep up the fight as Trump's plague point man well into Trump's second term in 2021 & 2022.

LA County alone: 21,000+ new cases w/138 deaths both all time highs, County of 10 million is down to under 100 ICU beds with 5,000 body bags on the way.

Meanwhile an over-the-hill former child star, Kirk Cameron, holds a sing along for hundreds of maskless people protesting shut down orders. He declared it a religious gathering and thus exempt from lockdown,

I don't understand people.

In San Diego, there are no beds in ICUs or ERs right now. The hospitals have been playing Russian roulette with ambo drivers for the past few days. It's pretty scary. Remember when there wasn't any toilet paper in the stores?

This is far worse…

Japan freaked out today after hitting new highs for a couple of days in a row. Their diagnosed case hit a new high, 3,211. Their diagnosed case number is lower than our death rate. Their population is just over a third of ours.

There are some aspects of Japanese society that I don't see Americans adopting, but I wish some of the sense of being members of a society would rub off on our population. My state of MA has more cases a day on a population that is a small fraction of Japan's, and this state is far from being near the top of the list on a per capita basis.

We are seeing the results of Thanksgiving. We saw the travel numbers, in spite of pleas that people not congregate.

Just wait until Groundhog Day, about a month after the Christmas and New Years holiday.

It's going to be an even worse disaster if it doubles again at the end of January from December 23rd... 600,000 cases per day and 10,000 deaths per day. Deaths could go up even more because there won't be enough hospital beds for all the ICU patients.

Will the MAGAts turn out to protect Paul Alexander after the Congressional panels over his emails (cough*her-emails*cough)?

We're not going to be able to tamp this down. Not enough cooperation and not enough enforcement. Not enough vaccine implementation for a while. So many poor people sick and dying even when they comply.

They are freaking out because it looks like they may not be able to contain COVID. That was the whole point - containing the disease. If you contain it like NZ, you gotta chance at normalcy. IF you fail to contain it, you have to install measures to fight it that hurts your economy - you have a chance to be the USA. Yes, freak out by all means Japan - this is a big deal. You ALMOST got this...

We're barely into the second wave. The disregard for masking/distancing will show in mid-late January and a third wave is expected in March.
