Dirty dozen

12 Republican US Senators plan to join 140 members of congress, at last count, in objecting to the certification of Biden's election.

They know this won't work. It's Trumpism v. democracy. Little d.

They are anti-American and need to be excoriated by the media and everyone else.
They are the people who would have backed McCarthy in a previous time. Bastards, every last one of them.

I fully expect my local rep, Danial Webster, to join the sedition. He has been highly objectionable since being elected.

But he'll stay in office unopposed, after all, it takes The Villages to elect an idiot.

I wonder why our two GA senators aren’t on that list.
It would seem to be right up their alley.

They don't want to turn off swing voters that may lean towards the Democratic agenda but hate "defund the police" or whatever socialism label than can hang on Ossoff and Warnock.

Yeah, but I wonder if the big orange baby might get his little panties in a twist and maybe screw them over at Monday night’s rally in Dalton.
Who knows.

No big surprise that one of my state's is in that dozen.

These frackers really need to go. At the very least, be charged with sedition.

"The president and his allies are playing with fire. They have been asking -- first the courts, then state legislatures, now the Congress -- to overturn the results of a presidential election. They have unsuccessfully called on judges and are now calling on federal officeholders to invalidate millions and millions of votes," Sasse wrote.

"If you make big claims, you had better have the evidence. But the president doesn't and neither do the institutional arsonist members of Congress who will object to the Electoral College vote."

Arsonists, indeed.

the GA elections are on the 5th, results probably won't be ready by the 6th. So who is goin to represent GA on the 6th? do the old senators keep their positions by default until the results of the run-off election are certified?

There are reasons that McConnell didn't want those challenges to be joined by any Republican Senators. I think one of them is that these votes will force maybe three to five Republican senators that may be in close races for reelection in 2022 to be on record either supporting this crap or not supporting it. It's lose-lose for them. If they support it, then their Democratic challengers can use it against them in 2022; if they don't support it, any Republican primary challenger can use it against them. In a couple of years this will probably fade from memory of swing/centrist voters that will probably determine most of those close senate races next year, but it may still be relevant enough because the races are so close that it could make a difference. I think Mitch just doesn't want to take the risk no matter how small when it won't change the final outcome.

Sen. David Perdue's term will officially expire at the end of the current Congress, which occurs Sunday. Loffler's term does not expire until the special election is certified. Therefore there will only be 99 Senators beginning Monday.

I haven't seen much of Kennedy but what I've seen seemed to indicate that he is reasonably sharp and not a Trump zombie. Is he actually a total goofy head, or is he just bowing to the political realities of Republican politics in Louisiana?

I was actually a little surprised to see his name on this list. You're right that he's reasonably sharp and hasn't necessarily been a Trump zombie, and has also shown signs of being able to compromise or at least see the other side's perspective ... on the other hand, he's a huge gun nut and is close friends with Wayne LaPierre. I'm wondering if he's just pandering to his constituency and/or someone "got" to him.

Ditto. I was wondering what would happen to Perdue's staff. It's not clear if they stay on the payroll after tomorrow, or if he has to rehire them if he wins. That's a $3M annual payroll. Maybe he'll just pay them out of pocket. Ha ha

That would be an odd position to be in. They don’t have the typical two months to be looking for another job, if he were to lose, like they would have if the race had been decided in November.

Romney put out a statement about this. Is he the only Republican?

The egregious ploy to reject electors may enhance the political ambition of some, but dangerously threatens our Democratic Republic.

Romney is one of the few who seems willing to come out and say that the Republican party no longer stands for what it should. Ben Sasse (who I quoted in a different post) is another. Any self-respecting, TRUE Republican should be embarrassed and horrified with what's going on right now ... and some of them have spoken out about it, e.g., Lincoln Project and others.

If John McCain were still alive, what do you think he would say about all this?
