As a private citizen, can Trump be subpoenaed to testify at his impeachment trial?

As a private citizen, can Trump be subpoenaed to testify at his impeachment trial?

If so, I imagine he would be given the same option as a defendant in a criminal trial to not testify if he doesn't want to. Of course, he wouldn't testify, but I think I'd be tempted to serve him the subpoena anyway.
