Yeah, I saw that on the news. The clinic says it was doing so in good faith.

Lots of errors. The DPH had poor communication, and it also looks like the clinic wasn't experienced enough to doggedly pursue guidance: Buying a $7,000 freezer because you assume you'd need it is an example. The clinic did right overall, but within a bad situation.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. I have no problem with the seizure because the vaccine went elsewhere in the county. Once one provider doesn’t follow the rules, others will too, then why have any rules.

I'm not seeing any ill will on the part of the clinic but maybe I missed something.

The GA officials did not notify them as far as I can tell.

Why not call, confirm and have them update their priority planning?

Nobody got killed. They'll be alright. We haven't tried to inoculate the world all at once weeks after ditching the evil jackass that made it worse than we could ever imagine before. Shithappens.

What our county health dept is doing in NW Georgia is following the state rules that opened it up to 65 year olds a month ago. But, it turns out that a number of people who have appointments for a second shot aren't showing up. So toward the end of the day they take walk-ins of any age for a first dose so that none of the thawed doses are wasted. They then make appointments for those people to get a second dose on the 3 week time frame.

They have some National Guardsmen directing traffic through the day and asking if people have appointments. If they do not and it's early in the day they tell people it's appointment-only at that time. As the day progresses the staff gets a sense of how many extra doses will be available and they send that information to the Guardsmen who then try to keep a ballpark count of non-appointment people and let them in. At a certain point they tell people that there won't be any extra doses available. I don't know if we've wasted any doses up here but it seems like a smart way to maximize the doses while still following state regulations that are still focusing on the most vulnerable elderly, as well as the (hopefully few...) first responders and others in the CDC 1a group.
