Alcee Hastings (D-FL) succumbs to cancer, shrinking Dem House majority to 7

Alcee Hastings fought pancreatic cancer for two years, but he died. That brings the House to 218 Democrats and 211 Republicans.

It will be 218-212 after Florida governor DeathSantis appoints a far right Trump worshipper to replace Hastings.

No - House vacancies can only be filled by election. States can call a special election or leave the seat vacant until the next regular election, but governors cannot appoint Representatives.

He can delay the election for months. Florida is about to undergo redistricting. Hastings district was scheduled to be weakened. There's always shenanigans. rip Rep Hastings.
