Good to know the three year old didn’t commit suicide.

MILWAUKEE — A 3-year-old boy got a hold of a firearm and unintentionally shot and killed himself in Milwaukee. according to police

The toddler died Saturday night after shooting himself about 10:30 p.m.

A 26-year-old man was arrested with criminal charges being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the coming days.

The victim has not been identified. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office says the autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Neighbors said the child's mother was so distraught, WISN-TV reported.

"The heartbreak in her scream, that was scary in itself," Santana Medina said. "For her to wake up today and know that she's one child less is heartbreaking. I just pray that God covers them and keeps them because today isn't going to be a good day for them."

Quite common.

Firearms are the leading cause of death of children in my state of South Carolina, and according to the state pediatricians group, over half of those children were "trained" in firearms handling.

Any time a child enters a home other than their own, the parent should ask if there are any unlocked guns in the home. If the answer is yes or NOYB, then the child doesn't go in.

A lot of pediatricians get told to eff off when they ask about guns on homes with children

The GOP solution:
- More guns
- Fewer restrictions to buying guns
- No required training, such as teaching how to store a gun out of reach of children

The shootings are getting closer: There were 2 deaths in a shootout a couple days ago, just a mile from my home. The neighbors said they were not surprised - the one guy was dangerous. Still allowed to own guns, though. After all, this is the deep South.

I've had people come to clinic wearing guns, refusing to leave them in the car despite "NO WEAPONS" listed on the clinic doors.

Why is it necessary in a first world country to specify "no weapons" on the door to a clinic?

You're being generous with "first world country." I think we forfeited that status.

I guess that the corollary to that are the parentsof all the dead and murdered children. It's hard to fathom this society we call a country.

Dammit. Another incompetent gun owner causes death. A tragedy but completely and utterly avoidable.

Weapons should be:
Stored unloaded
Secured in a locked safe.
Secured with a trigger / bolt lock.
Ammunition locked separately from the weapon.

IMHO, Insecure storage of a loaded weapon is attempted manslaughter.

How’s about, you don’t have the weapon at all?!

cbelt, you must realize that very few handgun owners do this. It works against what they imagine they are gaining from a handgun - if you have to run around unlocking (x2!) and then loading, then it doesn't make much sense to keep it at your bedside to "defend yourself against the bad guy in the night". My FIL kept a loaded handgun in his bedside table for most of his adult life. We absolutely hated it, but there wasn't much we could do about it other than cross our fingers.

I agree that the gun owners in the current situation should be charged with a crime. Most folks would disagree, I think, seeing it as piling on in a tragedy. But if all we ever do is call it a tragedy, then we can expect this to be repeated forever.

If only Wisconsin had a Law that addresses Leaving or storing a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a child...

Huh. So this negligent owner might be guilty of a misdemeanor in his actions directly leading to the death of this (his?) child.

Let’s see if it’s actually charged.

BTW:

Quote

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed a bill on Friday that bans local governments from imposing gun regulations.

The bill expands a 2011 law that allows citizens or gun groups to sue local governments for enacting gun restrictions and demand up to $100,000 in damages...

The GOP: the party of local control, except whenever it doesn’t suit their political goals.

Agree. Parents should be charged. Blame lies w/ parents.
A 3 y/o should not be taught any type of gun handling. They should only be taught to get an adult.

Disagree w/ some caveats.
There are secure vaults available that can only be opened w/ fingerprint or an RFID bracelet.

I live alone.
By your standard I am guilty of attempted manslaughter or I would be if it hadn't been for that tragic boating accident.

Which is why you're not a judge.

Love the arrogant use of IMHO, btw.
