Law firm targeted pro-Trump employees for firing

Sometimes there are crazies on the left.

According to the complaint, Scott was disturbed by the Capitol riot and sent an e-mail in April to all the firm's lawyers, saying that the "traitors on Jan. 6" should have been shot.

He then told the firm's operations manager to fire two employees he labeled "racist" because they had pro-Trump and pro-police posts on their social media accounts.

When she refused to fire the employees, Scott fired her, according to the complaint. Scott then fired an additional employee and threatened to fire another.

The three partners confronted Scott, according to court documents, and told him that firing an employee for political beliefs is against state law. Scott then fired them and called St. Cloud police to remove Quarberg, claiming she was trespassing and physically threatening him.

Scott cut off the partners' phones and e-mail accounts and changed the locks on the offices, the complaint says.

(One of the fired partners was our attorney when we applied for a guardianship and conservatorship for our daughter a dozen or so years ago.)

The extremes on both sides are dangerous.

Notably, the lawsuit is over breach of a buyout agreement regarding the partners shares in the firm and is not a discrimination suit.

That is indeed a big, fat notably. Then the Trump angle has nothing to do with the suit, from a legal standpoint.

I can't read the article because I don't feel like putzing around to get past the paywall.

Is there any mention of the legality of an employer emailing employees that certain people should be shot? I feel like that could be a kink that might negate the At Will thing, since the desire to shoot people conceivably could have included employee relatives or friends.

Except that the fired partners were co-bosses, not employees, and owned 50% of the firm. Scott over-extended his authority in "firing" them, locking them out, and then failing to honor the partnership dissolution agreement that they subsequently negotiated.
