I do wonder if some vaccinated people throw a false positive on the tests.
I heard that the golfer who tested positive a few weeks ago, had a huge lead but couldn’t finish the last round, had just had his first dose of the vaccine a few days before the test. I wondered if it was a false positive from the vaccine.

A few peculiar things about this story:

1) How did they tell that they were infected, if they were asymptomatic? Possible the tests were just showing exposure to the antigen, from vaccination.

2) If they were truly infected, that that suggests a very high breakthrough rate.

3) What about the people who exposed but weren't vaccinated? They say that 94% of staff were vaccinated, so that leaves the 6% who weren't, and it'd be interesting to know if they came down with it.

Edit: rgG beat me to my #1 point above.

I'd like confirmation that the test for infection detects another part of the virus than the antigen used for vaccination.

Gonna need more data before panicking.

Plus, hasn't it been put of there to the public - you CAN still get infected if you're vaccinated, it just unlikely. You'll likely get a mild or asymptotic case, without any major or long term issues.

this 'outbreak' could be a single patient - we don't know

Seems like the asymptomatic label for Covid-19 has lots of interpretations …

Someone who was exposed a year ago to enough of the virus and for a long enough duration, but never ever had Covid-19 symptoms - will they test positive/asymptomatic forever?

As mentioned, after someone is vaccinated, what percentage of them will test positive/asymptomatic forever? Does vaccine origin matter?

If the old folks in question are asymptomatic - is time a variable in remaining asymptomatic?

So many questions - so few answers.

(An "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express" statement)

I don't think testing positive and having the disease are 100% correlated, especially if you've been vaccinated. The PCR test detects the presence of certain proteins. That doesn't always mean you're actually infected at present.

As an example, when I had Covid, I was told I would probably test positive for months after recovering.

The UK has a big upsurge in cases but not in hospitalizations or people needing ventilators. Cornwall in general has a lot of cases. They just had a lot of fer'ners there as you recall.

I've heard that people can get it after being vaccinated, but that it is a much milder form and even the Delta variation isn't killing people like we used to see.

It's the antigen test that detects proteins. PCR detects RNA/DNA sequences. Each of these has different kinetics of persistence. This is why it's important to know which test they were using.
