ROC (Russian Olympic Committee)

Seems like a compromise to me.

either ban ALL Russian Athletes or just let them compete for Russia.

Letting them compete under a ROC name seems like slapping a criminal on the wrist and letting them go free.

Individual Russian athletes train every bit as hard as do others, to hold them responsible for the corruption of the organization that is their umbrella would be unfairly punitive and destructive to their future careers.

This sort of collateral damage is almost exactly what happened to athletes when the USA boycotted the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Condemning the official Russian government organization while allowing athletes who had nothing to do with those decisions to compete was the right way to go.

Especially when the announcers keep saying Russians, and not Russian Olympic Committee.

Shouldn't they have done it with China as well, or are they slightly less corrupt and dishonest?

For athlete's there is still a special reward to being called an Olympic Athlete or earning an Olympic medal - the branding is there that other international competitions lack.

But on the organizational level, all the Olympic committees are corrupt and dishonest. Second only to FIFA.

Funny thing - when they kept showing “ROC” in the medal count on TV, I assumed it was Republic of China (ie Taiwan). I was surprised they were doing so well.
