imo he's telling a hard truth in exactly the way we've trained politicians not to. I can forgive a lot of mistakes over this. Mistakes will always happen, the best we can do is be truthful about them.

While I'm definitely sympathetic to the plight of the Afghanis, I also feel that they needed to take responsibility for their own country. We were there for 20 years, providing them with equipment and training, along the lines of "teach a man to fish" ... it appears that we did successfully teach them to fish, they apparently just had no interest in doing so once we left, allowing the Taliban scare them away from the fishing holes.

I don't see how staying there any longer would have made any difference. As for Biden and his administration's apparent choice to ignore what the military and the intelligence from within Afghanistan was telling him (if we can, for a moment, assume both that they were being truthful in this AND that they were transparent about it) ... there's only so much you can do. Biden has now gone on record that he will make sure that everyone they can get out, will safely get out.
