‘ Kentucky’s Democratic governor on Sunday described the state’s surge of Covid cases as “dire,” and pointed out that Republican state lawmakers had limited his options to control the record wave of infections there.

“If I had the ability to do it right now, we would have a masking order when you are in public and indoors,” said Gov. Andy Beshear, on NBC’s “Meet the Press” news program. “We know that’s a proven way to slow the spread of the virus and ultimately help our health care capacity.” ‘

More Democrats should be hammering this message home.

It will interesting this week to see if the legislature with its super majority can even come close to promoting safety. As is true in so many places, there are the well armed angry mobs who don't want to be told what to do, but if those folks succeed, it is likely there will be fewer of them voting next year.

I am not hearing what the "sense of the senate" is about this yet. They begin their called session on Tuesday morning.

What did you expect, of course things are “dire,” because as you state, he’s a Democrat. They should have elected a Republican and things would be just fine.

Every now and again, a R candidate is so bad that even a very red state will not vote for him. Happened in Kentucky with the governor and in Indiana some years ago, voting in a D senator because the Tea Party R candidate was so bad. And both of these were men.

And Claire McCaskill in Missouri got an extra term because of her idiot Repug opponent.

I think another good example is Democrat Doug Jones getting some time in the Senate from Alabama because even they (collectively) couldn't stomach Roy Moore.

It was very close, though.
