Our friend I mentioned the other day didn't pull through, stinking Covid!

Covid took him last night. He was in the hospital for a week and was released in August, went back to work for 4 hours a day but was on O2 while at home. He took a turn for the worse right before Labor Day, pneumonia. He had been on a ventilator since Labor Day. We tried our best to get him to get the vaccine back in May, he said as many people as he had been in contact with if he hadn't caught it yet he wasn't going to get it, well that didn't work out too well. He was General Manager of one of the top 10 Toyota dealerships in the country. He was about 43 yo and still has kids at home. This is the second friend and client our son has lost to Covid in less than two weeks. He had purchased several Hereford heifer calves from our son and our son was boarding them until he got his facilities setup on his farm he bought. Our son is going to return the purchase price of the calves to the family and keep the calves.

Please folks if haven't gotten the vaccine yet please do it ASAP.

So sorry about the needless death of your young family friend.

His cavalier attitide about the risk of COVID is sadly common.

I hope you are able to persuade others to get the life-saving vaccine. I am doing the same.

I have a first cousin in the ICU in Charlotte right now. He is 63 and unvaccinated, which shocked me when I heard. Caught it from his daughter who got it from someone at her college. She was doing weekly testing but had infected her parents before she got her positive result.

"Sad news, sorry for your loss."

Ditto that.

Made light of BIL's BIL around Labor Day weekend here, that I had the holiday Monday afternoon slot in his deadpool. Turned out they hooked him up to all sorts of machines, and he made it til the next day. ~50 y.o. sheriff's deputy from a family full of anti-vaxxers. I was tempted to post a chunk of his family's social media postings (anonymously, of course) to show what he was in the midst of.

He had the same ethos as your guy, "....he [also] said as many people as he had been in contact with if he hadn't caught it yet he wasn't going to get it, [and[ well that didn't work out too well [either]." Kids sorta grown, but had a daughter + hubby and a couple of grandkids in the house. Your guy put up a longer fight; BIL's BIL lasted a little over a week after being admitted. I haven't checked lately, but for several days after he passed, his family's anti-vax social media posts disappeared. It took his dying to accomplish that, as they were still posting anti-vax comments online up until only five days before.

Your son's kindness and generosity are heartwarming. Hopefully your guy's family embrace the vax from now on.

As is gospel around here, and you well said:

"Please folks if y'all haven't gotten the vaccine yet, please do it ASAP."

So sad. I just don't understand the anti-vax attitudes in the face of so much evidence. My condolences to his family, and blessings to your sweet son!

My condolences. That is very sad.

When I hear things like this I wonder, who do the survivors direct their anger at for causing these completely avoidable deaths? Trump? the state governor? Tucker Carlson? the now dead radio personalities? Those people are all complicit in the deaths and they know what they're doing.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Deplorables don’t need to blame anybody in particular. They blame and hate the Other for all their woes.

They blame Obama for disbanding the pandemic response team (not true, in fact Obama left a strong plan) and Biden for the current situation. Trump was PERFECT, the BEST.

Thanks everyone.

My wife talked to his widow for about an hour this morning, she is doing surprisingly well. Not sure it has hit her yet.
