It's always interesting to hear what Mary Trump has to say about her uncle.

The ex-president claims there was an “insidious plot to obtain confidential and highly-sensitive records.

The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday in Dutchess County, New York, alleges that the newspaper convinced Mary Trump to “smuggle records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over to The Times” despite her having signed a confidentiality agreement in 2001. The suit demands damages “in an amount to be determined at trial, but believed to be no less than One Hundred Million Dollars” from both Mary Trump and the Times.

The suit came after Robert Trump, Donald’s brother who died in 2020, had previously sued to try and stop Mary Trump and publisher Simon & Schuster from releasing her memoir, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. Judge Hal Greenwald ruled in that case that the 2001 confidentiality agreement had been too vaguely defined to stop her from writing about the sitting president and noted that her publisher had not been a signatory to that agreement.

"I think he is a @#$%& loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can,” said Mary Trump of her uncle’s new suit. “It’s desperation. The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick.

…you are neither as successful as you claimed,

…nor self-made, and that

…you used numerous questionable-at-best tax dodges to stiff the government and American people

…paying total Federal taxes of $750 some years, and claiming huge tax refunds other years.

So, was pulling back the curtain on this fraudster embarrassing? Should be, for any normal person. But illegal, or actionable in a civil case?

Doubt it. Good luck Don. All you just did is confirm everything they said about you is true.

I doubt this lawsuit will much outlive the first subpoena for a deposition given to Donald Trump by Mary Trump's lawyer.

In most cases you cannot disclose the contents of tax returns obtained through a civil action. I obtained my brother’s tax returns in a guardianship dispute and cannot disclose their contents to anyone not involved in the suit (and those involved already have the returns.)
