Three for three with Team M!!!

Hubby and I got our Moderna half dose booster today.
We went across the street to the Publix.
Hubby is over 65, so no issue with him qualifying.
I will turn 65 in January, but a simple, "I have an underlying condition" statement, and I was good to go.
The actual shot did not seem to hurt as much as the other two. Might be any number of reasons. We will see if we have any reaction to it.

I got my 90 year old mom signed up for her Moderna booster for Thursday morning, at the health department down the street from where she lives.

I am glad we will all be fully topped up before it gets into the really cold weather. We all have had our flu shots, too.

I have done all I can do, and will continue to mask up, unlike most of the people in the Costco the other day. sad smiley

Excellent. I hope you have no side effects. I do not have any for my third Pfizer.

Got my Moderna booster at Kroger Pharmacy. Not even any injection site tenderness. Yay!

I also noticed that my arm is not nearly as sore as with the other two. My arm hurt immediately afterwards with the first two.

We just became six-month eligible, so will get in soon.

I'm thinking about getting a Moderna booster instead of the Pfizer booster for my Pfizer shots. I'm eligible Friday (underlying conditions... LOTS of them..)

Congrats! A sore arm may mean your immune system reacted to the vaccine; give it time. The tiny needles being used really help with eliminating the pain of injection.

Are vaccine boosters widely needed? Some federal advisers have misgivings

The recommendations on COVID-19 vaccine boosters mask significant dissent.

From the NYTimes but this link avoids the paywall:

Following a series of endorsements over the past month by scientific panels advising federal agencies, tens of millions of Americans are now eligible for booster shots of coronavirus vaccines.

But the recommendations — even those approved unanimously — mask significant dissent and disquiet among those advisers about the need for booster shots in the United States.

In interviews last week, several advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and to the Food and Drug Administration said data show that, with the exception of adults over age 65, the vast majority of Americans are already well protected against severe illness and do not need booster shots.

All the advisers acknowledged that they were obligated to make difficult choices, based on sparse research, in the middle of a public health emergency. But some said they felt compelled to vote for the shots because of the way the federal agencies framed the questions that they were asked to consider.

Other committee experts said that they wanted to avoid confusing the public further by dissenting, or that they voted according to their views of the evidence and were simply overruled.

"These are not evidence-based recommendations," said Dr. Sarah Long, a pediatric infectious disease expert at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, and a member of the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

Following a series of votes, the official position of the FDA and CDC now is that among those who received an mRNA vaccine, older adults, people with certain medical conditions and those whose jobs or living situations regularly expose them to the virus can opt for a booster dose of any of the three vaccines.

"I don't think that we have evidence that everybody in those groups needs a booster today," said Dr. Matthew Daley, senior investigator at Kaiser Permanente Colorado and a member of the CDC advisory committee.

Long and Daley both voted in favor of booster shots at their committee's meeting Thursday, but with reservations over how the decision would be viewed by anxious Americans who might conclude mistakenly that the vaccines are ineffective.

When the CDC committee reviewed evidence for the Pfizer-BioNTech booster in September, the advisers agreed unanimously only on extra shots for adults over age 65. Two of the 15 panelists voted against booster doses for adults over age 50 with certain medical conditions.

Approval of boosters for people ages 18 to 49 with other medical risk factors squeaked by in a vote of 9-6. And the booster recommendation for people whose occupations put them at risk did not pass.

That last category was included in the final CDC recommendations only because Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the agency's director, overruled her advisers.

"Severe" illness is a term of art. They're saying that if you had the 1st vaccination then the odds are that when you get COVID you won't have to be put into a coma on a vent where you will die a horrible death isolated from your family.

Personally, I'd like a little more protection than that.

My arm did get sore later on and I felt a little sore and achey before bed. I took one Tylenol before bed and I feel better this morning. I would say I had enough of a reaction to show it was working, but not enough to cause any concern.

Hubby says his arm got just a little sore and no other effects. He had a much stronger reaction to the second shot than this one.
