When they announced cases in Hong Kong and Israel, I knew it was already here - here being the USA travel hubs.

It is somewhat promising that no close contacts have tested positive, except for knowing how poor contact tracing is in the US.

I wonder if the sewage testing will work to help detect positive cases this time.

sewage testing ???

This was used in low incidence populations to narrow down the location of infected individuals, like in a college dorm. No need to test individuals if that entire dorm has zero infections. And such tests can be conducted daily and cheaply.

Saint Cloud, Minnesota, where the weather is wonderful even when it isn't.

You might be thinking of pooled batch testing, that works well on college campuses. . Something different.

Wastewater testing means just that, it is surveillance for an entire community and because COVID shows up in the poop of asymptomatic and symptomatic people, it makes for quicker discovery of viral transmission than individual testing
Pretty cool.

Minnesota just identified its first case, a domestic travel case from somebody who went to a conference in New York and tested positive Nov.22. MN has one of the best surveillance programs in the country but it still took them 8 days to identify omicron.

This places omicron in the US before it was reported in SA, and with community transmission.

Los Angeles caught it's first case today, a fully vaxxed SA traveler who returned on November 22 so it also took 8 days to discover.
