Bye Bye Build Back Better.

Manchin is floating a package that would reduce the deficit, lower prescription drug costs, plow some money into fighting climate change and reform the tax code. While he’s repeatedly said there are no formal talks going on with Biden or his colleagues, most Democrats take it as a sign he’s open for business.

And that’s welcome news for a group of Democrats who are trying to assemble a cost-cutting agenda but struggling to break through. Their proposed relaxation of the federal gas tax appears to be going nowhere, but the possibility of a party-line spending deal with Manchin through the budget reconciliation process offers Democrats some new hope.

“It is worth continuing to figure out how we work together to really focus on how we lower these costs for families and individuals right now,” said Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), who said she is talking with a group of Democrats on a package that would take some pieces of the Build Back Better bill. “We should pull out those that really make sense.”

Will progressives go along with this?

especially if Insulin costs are pulled down. My wife's would cost us $750/month, luckily we get free through the school district clinic.

If we ever become truly serious about lowering the cost of health care and pharmaceutical drugs, the government should become a manufacturer of insulin (and let distributors charge a nominal fee for getting it to the public).

The thing about Manchin is that he doesn't really care about ANY of it as none of it directly affects him! It's all just a game to him to stay in the headlines.

That can be said about 95% of lawmakers (and ALL congresspersons), to be honest.

Didn’t I read somewhere that Sinema received large contributions from big pharma?

Do not vaccinate health care workers first. If it fails, we're all in trouble. Vaccinate the politicians first. If we lose a few of them, it won't matter.

The people, er, voters in wherever the hell President Manchin is from have got to be dumber than outhouse doors; because he’s full of outhouse deposits.

It's a state that's full of MAGA's. It's a miracle that Manchin even gets elected. Trump won West Virginia by 39 points. Trump won it by 42 points in 2016.

Fun fact: Manchin voted Yes on the Infrastructure Bill. The so-called "Progressives" voted NO. Yet they brag on it as if they voted yes.

If we lose the whole lot, we'd be better off.
