I was at Costco and asked...yup, okay with them. The number of people out with out masks is frightening. Okay on buses and subways (but fading)

I think the macho, the stupid and the family-gathering-foolish are going to spike themselves into surge the next few weeks. I don't wish to join them.

We have fewer people wearing masks here in LA now, but the hospitalizations and daily deaths are way down. I attribute it to the large number of people who have been vaccinated (in the elderly population it is close to ninety percent) and to the substantial number of people who have had the infection, particularly since the Omicron surged up. I would guess that we have some partial herd immunity in the population now, and people who use ordinary caution are largely doing OK.

I noticed this too, at a recent appointment with an ophthalmologist. None of them were wearing masks (NOLA dropped its indoor mask mandate not too long ago). I, on the other hand, insisted on wearing my N95, and at one point when it came to me maybe having to take it off, I told the assistant that maybe she should be wearing one. That didn't seem to go over well.

Already tried. *I* got in trouble. I also ride the hospital shuttle with the now maskless drivers and approx 20% maskeless rides. It's hospital policy to wear until you get to your car.

People are terrible.

There is pretty much zero masking around here now. But there are also very few cases, hospitalization, or deaths. Levels are similar to the flu now.
