Second Booster, how did your body react?
Posted by: GGD
Date: April 16, 2022 12:55PM
I got my second Moderna (1/2 dose) booster yesterday. It was 5 1/2 months after my first booster.

I must say that I'm feeling a stronger reaction to this one than I did to the first booster. Injection site on my arm is pretty sore and I've had some chills, and felt pretty tired last night.

My wife got her Moderna booster yesterday too, 4 1/2 months after her first and she's feeling a similar reaction and symptoms.

How did others feel after the second booster?

Other than slight arm soreness, I had no reaction that I was aware of. Mine was 5½ months after the first.

Barely felt it. Arm was a little sore the next day.

Not even a fever afterwards.

Slight injection site soreness. It was a full dose of Moderna, not a half dose like most boosters.

All my shots have been Pfizer, and my strongest reaction was to the first booster; I felt extremely achy and feverish for more than a solid day. Strong headache, too. For the second booster, my reaction wasn't as severe. Sore arm both times.

For the first booster I was told to wait at least 24 hours or longer before taking anything, so I waited a long miserable day before swallowing one ibuprofen. Then I began to feel better. However, for the second booster, the pharmacist recommended that I not wait so long but take something that same night. It helped!

Mild fatigue the next day, mild soreness in my arm for a few days. 2nd Moderna booster was 5 1/2 after first booster.

How did you get a full dose? I asked Walmart if I could have one for my first booster and they said no.

They have to tick a "medical condition" override box (might not be called exactly that) when entering it on the computer. Doing so is at the discretion of the pharmacist. ... They are supposed to take your word for it as to whether you have a valid medical reason.

First booster that I got was a full dose. Second dose, I had a confrontation with an anti-vax pharmacist and went to a second pharmacy where I was so grateful to find a reasonable person behind the counter that I didn't press for the full-dose.

Pfizer here ... very mildly sore injection site for a few hours is all I've had for any of the four doses.

Wife's soreness lasted a day or two.

Nearly the same for me (chills, tiredness - and also foggy-headedness), with both Boosters (Pfizer, though) - and this lasted pretty much the entire next day. I just napped it off and was functional again by 7 or 8pm.

Hmmm . . . sounds like a lot of us here have had little or no reaction to the shots other than slight arm soreness. That’s reassuring to me because I’ve been worried that my non-reaction might indicate no boosting of my immune system.

Haven't yet had the latest shot but your observation tracks with my own, I was actually hoping for previous immune responses that never came. At this point, I'm not certain that's even meaningful.

I have two CDC cards (from two states; almost got a third card but passed)(I can pass for a MAGAt so extra cards are easy to get.) So, the first and second boosters just filled out the first two lines on the card. I have room for four more half-dose boosters before I’ll need a new card. Traveling has its perks because my state does track my doses but not across state lines.

Needs to be 4 months since first booster and age 50+.

What kind of insurance documentation/information did they require to give you the vaccine? Or did you tell them "no insurance?" I would expect that to be a way they would pick up frequent flyers, since insurance gets billed for the "administration" of the vaccine.

I have an appointment for second booster on Thursday.

Not quite as bad as my first booster. Similar to the flu for a day.

Medicare. But my first ones were on employer provided insurance. But for later ones I flashed my Medicare Part A-only card. I had Part A because I am 65+ but was still covered under employer insurance. Now I go to places that don’t care like vaccine clinics. We were visiting my son in Texas who lives right on the border (the fence is visible from his apartment building and the school where he teaches) and they have a vaccination clinic in a strip mall located right as you exit the border crossing area into the USA. They ask no questions.

I go to Kaiser this Wednesday for my second booster.

No Nostradamus I, but predicting a slightly sore arm for a few hours and 99.5% right as rain on Thursday.

At least that's the way it's been for my last three COVID sticks, and a flu shot.

I'll get a flu shot on Wednesday, if they're offering it, as I did in October last.

It too had extremely mild side effects.

And I'm always good for an afternoon lie down.

Got my second "booster" about two weeks ago. The second and third nights, I had a bit of soreness in the arm near the injection site. Pretty much the same effect after the first booster and both "regular" Moderna vaccinations (NOTE: I choses Pfizer for the first booster just to "switch it up" a bit).

Got my second Pfizer booster today.

Just like the last three, I told myself if I don't cry, I get to go to In-n-Out, after.

With motivation like that, no cry, lol.

I was asked 'Pfizer or Moderna' before entering the stab arena.

I don't know it it was to just send me to the right station or if I could have requested MD.

Anyway, Double-Double and a chonklate shake.

Different reactions to the two boosters, but the doses were different, too.

My first booster was full dose Moderna in October after 2 Pfizers (gaming the system, different state, different insurance, 2nd CDC card). Fever and chills for 24 hours (delayed start), arm pain longer.

The second booster was half dose Moderna 6 months later, no fever, much less arm pain, but fatigued for 24 hours (starting next day).

18 hours after the second Moderna booster (jab number 4) I have the same mild reaction as for the first Moderna booster (jab number 3) -- achy tenderness around the site of injection, and that's it.

It was only the second Moderna full dose (jab number 3) that gave me a noticeably unpleasant reaction -- moderate fever and general crummies the day after, from hours 12 to 36.

After three Pfizer jabs I switched to Moderna two days ago. Well, that kicked my butt! My entire arm and shoulder hurt all day yesterday but is only mildly painful this morning. I was badly fatigued all day yesterday, had chills, and my brain was foggy. Feeling much better this morning.

sounds like a lot of us here have had little or no reaction to the shots other than slight arm soreness.

This prompted me to wonder...

I've seen a couple mentions here about the stronger the reactions to the shot, the better a given vaccine is doing in building immunity.

Now I may have misunderstood the true meaning of that general conversation, and if so, could someone set me straight?

And if that is the case, what does that mean for I and other who've had literally no reaction but some light soreness and a short spate of stiffness limited to the injection site and small surrounding area.

The doctor said you're gonna die.
