“ Firearms were leading cause of death for U.S. children and teens in 2020 “

‘ Guns became the leading cause of death among children and teens in 2020, killing more people ages 1 to 19 in the U.S. than vehicle crashes, drugs overdoses or cancer.

More than 4,300 died of firearm-related injuries that year — a 29 percent increase from 2019 — according to a research letter published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine. The letter analyzed decades of mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"In the last 40 years, and almost certainly before that, this is the first time that firearm injuries have surpassed motor vehicle crashes among kids," said a co-author of the letter, Jason Goldstick, a research associate professor at the University of Michigan. ‘

Is there a downward trend in deaths due to vehicle crashes in this age group? And what is the precise trend in firearm deaths?

That's not a bad price for that Shield, especially considering the integrated Crimson Trace Laser.

It wasn't cheap for me to add one to one of my SIGs.

Still not a fan of an enclosed hammer though, but it looks interesting.

I might get the ShieldEZ for my partner, she has some slight grip strength issues with her left hand, and the backstrap safety along with the thumb safety is appealing to her.

Racer, I assume the weapon is pretty much close range only with the short barrel ?

My hands are kind of small, weak, and messed up. I had to sell the .44 Ruger super Blackhawk to a buddy. I can still use the S&W model 41, but a .22 isn’t much gun.

3.8" barrel and 9mm. will easily get the job done. Most duty police sidearms these days are between 4 and 4.5" The Sig P229s you see on "NCIS" are 3.9" barrels for example.

Who needs a long barrel when the gun is at the back of someone’s head?

Right back atchya.

Range matters.

Out to 25yds, a quality 9mm or my preference .40cal fits that description.

When I shot PPC competitively, I used a 6" modded Model 27 Smith.

.38Spl wadcutter and 50yd targets (among other closer targets) were part of the drill, and holdover was significant.

With a SIG 226/229 in .40 with duty ammo, out to 25yds, holdover is negligible and it's easy to shoot very well on a range.

Practically speaking, 25yds would be probably be beyond a reasonable range, except in extreme circumstances.

For a flatter, more accurate weapon, I have a 700 Heavy bbl BDL in .308Win that I quite like.

That I haven't had near enough opportunity to shoot, but it's fun as well.

Yes, my Saturday nights have been busy, too.

When working, quarterly night quals were mandatory, sometimes on weeknights, sometimes on weekend nights.

Years ago, SFPD regularly hosted a night shoot competition, I went on a weeknight.

All my recreational shooting was done in the light of day, mostly on Sundays.

We don't need to dance to the same music to have a good time.
