Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that Texas would consider challenging a 1982 U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring states to offer free public education to all children, including those of undocumented immigrants.

"Texas already long ago sued the federal government about having to incur the costs of the education program, in a case called Plyler versus Doe," Abbott said, speaking during an appearance on the Joe Pags show, a conservative radio talk show. "And the Supreme Court ruled against us on the issue. ... I think we will resurrect that case and challenge this issue again, because the expenses are extraordinary and the times are different than when Plyler versus Doe was issued many decades ago."

I think the goal is:

Children of undocumented immigrants — no school for you!

This goes hand in hand with no affordable health care.

Oh wait, that last one applies to just about anybody.

Or do it like the deep south... public education is as bad as possible, because it's for the poor (brown) folk. Everyone else goes to private schools.

But wait ! We can have a 'charter' school that is allowed to be religious (Our faith don't allow no black folk). AND get money from the state. Ka-CHING !

The guy with a heavy accent that I am not going to ask for documents because I really need my lawn mowed and I have a shareholder's meeting to get to doesn't need an education.

I am sad to say that this is nothing new. The deepest "Christianists" have have been arguing against public schools since the 1990's. (I saw several state legislators in Montana argue against public schools in this time frame. It was not racially motivated in Montana at the time.)

Religious schools and home schooling at standing by to do what education is "necessary."
