Mr. Average Trumpist Conservative might say:
"Fake news by the lamestream media."
"There were faults on both sides."
"He was imprisoned by liberals who hate freedom."
"If he's not released, you're not going to have a country anymore."
Let's just hope that, if elected, he's not pardoned in order to serve (or rather: grift money from the uninformed electorate).

When did "the will of the people" become so sacrosanct that we'd elect murderers if "the people" told us to? Isn't this just the sort of thing the Founding Fathers, whom the Republicans think they have exclusive rights to interpret for us, were worried about?

The guy won by default. There were only three Repugs running for three seats and no Demorats. But had there been a Demorat running, it might have been a close race albeit with the edge going to the alleged murderer.
