LONDON — U.K. inflation hit 9.1% year-on-year in May as soaring food and energy prices continue to deepen the country’s cost-of-living crisis.

The 9.1% rise in the consumer price index, released Wednesday, was in line with expectations from economists in a Reuters poll and slightly higher than the 9% increase recorded in April.

Consumer prices rose by 0.7% month-on-month in May, slightly above expectations for a 0.6% rise but well short of the 2.5% monthly increase in April, indicating that inflation is slowing somewhat.

In Japan, the inflation rate is running about 2.5%.

This is a 7 year high.

Their central bank hasn't seen any need to act.

Well, Japan has been stuck for years and years with deflationary pressures (largely from demographics)



and anemic economic growth as a result:

…so yeah, they've seen a multi-year high in inflation too. They’re probably one country that’s happy about that - it’s what they’ve been trying to do for years, thus no central bank action.

The UKs economic problems also relate to disastrous Brexit policies. They should really get back in the single market.

I'm not saying it's Bidens fault, but showing that inflation is happening for different reasons elsewhere has nothing to do with whether it's his fault here. Might make good material for Colbert, but I would rather have info that shows what's causing inflation here.
