They had Nina Totenberg (their SCOTUS correspondent) on NPR describing such hearings as nothing more than Kabuki theater - you know, the nominee says Roe is settled law, and "moderate" Republican senators (or Manchin) can say they believe them.

Samuel Alito, the justice who has spent decades waiting to overturn Roe, also said in his confirmation hearing ages ago that he viewed Roe as settled, basically.

I think all this shows is that the ideological litmus tests Dems thought they were doing were a joke.

If you wamt liberals on the court you need a liberal president to appoint them and a liberal Senate to confirm them.

Amen.

Term limits for SCOTUS

As long as the legislative branch is choosing the jurists, it'll be a political crap shoot. The framers certainly foresaw this eventuality.

Unfortunately, any notion of a centrist perspective is long gone from the Supreme Court, and apparently from the larger context of American politics. It's just another extreme Red/Blue showdown.

Precisely. She was quoted not long ago as saying her meeting with Kav was to look for reasons NOT to endorse him. That’s the polar opposite of the purpose of any interview. She was a hack then and remains so today. No change, except for her crocodile tears.
