On the bus during 25% positivity Covid rise

So I'm on the bus, counting the geniuses who know too much to wear masks.

The average positivity boost in the areas covered by the bus route is 25% over the past week.

So what do I see? approximately 20%-39% of all passengers are not wearing masks even though it is REQUIRED (in big bright letters on the front of the bus).

Ordinarily, it's one or two ethnic groups and genders going maskless. Now it's every damn one . They have decided the plague has ended...as the test positivity rate spikes higher every day.

I'm to the point where I almost don't care of they get infected...I just don't want them to take me with them.

mass stupidity.

I’d guesstimate 40-60% of those on the SeaTac connector trains were masked yesterday when we transited.

I’m seeing almost no masking here. It’s not required and I think our dumb governor won’t ever require it again. You can’t fix stupid, but I don’t want anyone I care about (including healthcare workers) to get infected from these people's choices… and it’s causing me to avoid a lot of situations. Even in an N95, I’m not comfortable near the unmasked, coughing people I keep encountering indoors.

Even before the masking mandate was recently lifted, I saw a few people in Safeway (masks required) going maskless.

On a subsequent visit, it was maybe 50% going maskless.

I thought WTF but later saw the county mandate had been lifted.

Today (Tuesday) saw another Safeway visit.

Surprisingly, maybe 50% of the customers were still masked.

The other half was either maskless or wearing them on their chins.

I've got a Kaiser appointment soon, and they said mask up, and asked some COVID symptom questions.

Around here I would estimate under 10% of people are currently masked.

We mask up everywhere we go. Girls will be getting there second shots right before school starts in mid August and we will be looking to get boosted then as well.

My last two visits to Kaiser were under state and/or county mandates.

There were Kaiser employees stationed at every entrance providing mandatory use of hand sanitizer and masks.

Everyone inside was maskedup.

Today, at another Kaiser facility, presumably because of no mandate there were no employees stationed at the entrances.

Inside, far from the entrance, I saw two individuals at different times being given masks to wear.

I saw one individual wearing a chin-mask.

Kaiser had a mandatory maskup policy, with signs posted at many locations, and it's stated in emails with appointment information.

Said emails also state not to arrive early, so as to help maintain social distancing, which was observed by everyone I saw.

In 'inside' areas where masks are not required by management, it seems people are getting more an more comfortable with 'it's the Other Guy who'll get COVID' or something.

At least those maskedup aren't getting grief, that I've seen anyway.

There are zero mask requirements here in Michigan (outside of medical facilities) and mask wearing is also no higher than 5-10%.

At least cases and positivity is very low in this area, but still, everyone wants to think there is no longer a pandemic.
