GOP senators in a snit

They feel “betrayed”, because some Dem senators had told them privately, Well, it looks like that’s it for climate change and taxes this year, after Manchin’s last very public walkout.

And then he walked back. Just after 17 Republican Senators (barely 1/3rd of their group) had joined the Dems to support US chip development.

Which looked too much like a “win” for Biden. So, GOP House leadership flipped their position and put out the message that the bill must be killed in the House, but 24 Republicans voted for the popular bill anyway, and it passed.

No fair!

Now, even Susan Collins is very concerned about this perfidy and Republican senators are trying to retaliate, including sinking a “burn pit” toxicity bill for vets that they had previously supported and voted for. And now Collins is saying maybe they won’t support the House bill passed to codify same-sex marriage. Which is kind of ironic, since it’s McConnell’s shameless SCOTUS shenanigans that led House Dems to try to protect that right, favored by ~70% of Americans.

Payback sucks, don’t it?

By all means, Ms. Collins, vote against vets, abortion rights, contraception, and the right to marry the person you love because you’re in a snit. See how that works out for you.

It's nice to see McConnell and the repubs get some of their own medicine.

let's hope they see the same at the polls this november.

While the GOP spends their time deconstructing past legislation, etc., with no forward movement whatsoever, regressives choosing to combat progressives.

…and their fit of pique comes back to bite them in the ass:

Quote

Senate Republicans are reversing course on a veterans health care bill, signaling they’ll now help it quickly move to President Joe Biden’s desk after weathering several days of intense criticism for delaying the legislation last week.

Republicans insist their decision to hold up the bill, which expands health care for veterans exposed to toxic substances while on active duty, was unrelated to the deal on party-line legislation that top Democrats struck last week.

Uh-huh. An earlier vote on the bill passed the Senate with something like 84 votes. Suddenly the R’s lined up in lockstep against it.

Quote

Regardless of their reasoning, the GOP was quickly forced to play defense against both Democrats and veterans’ advocates who were caught off-guard by Republican delaying tactics after the party greenlit a nearly identical bill in June.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declined to respond to a question Monday about why the legislation was held up.

It will pass this week,” he said.

I’d call that a…

…and indeed, it did pass this week.

Republicans reverse course as Senate passes burn pits legislation after days of pressure

… On a 86-11 roll call, the vote served as a political surrender by Senate Republicans, a week after they blocked consideration of the popular legislation seemingly out of political pique because Democrats clinched a party-line deal on an unrelated massive domestic policy bill that could be considered later this week.

Honestly, the Republicans are a frickin hot mess right now.
