You're trying to sell that their lives matter to you. Citing Chicago's shootings are just a handy rationalization to deflect. It's what you got and you're using it.

If you seek to address urban despair, dysfunction and how a handful of the Black residents of Chicago Southside solve their conflicts, then address that. Since you're not doing that, what makes you qualified to paint those that focus on police led brutality as being hypocritical? Which is basically your point.

I'm not saying you're not interested in solving problems or addressing complicated concerns. Citing shootings as a counter to the folk your debating's arguments doesn't do it. They don't feel like hypocrites. They're sad, angry and frustrated.

You know who gets to do it? Me. Because I genuinely care about "all" Black lives and have spent my whole life elevating Black achievement, Black safety, Black love, Black economics and Black power. You know who else gets to do it? You, if you're genuine and care. In the big scheme of things, guns are not the overriding problem. There's a certain percentage of the population that are suffering deep problems that won't just go away if guns were to disappear. But we can't get "to" that properly, if Republicans won't at least help implement commons sense gun legislation.

I'm pro law enforcement, because Black people need safety and protection. I always have been and I always will be. It's critical that we improve the relationship between the police and the citizens that pay good money for their services vis-a-vis Black lives and law enforcement. Most Black people believe it or not, don't truck with criminals.

My father's youngest (and only surviving sibling) brother, my Uncle Freddy lives Southside and I have a great time when I visit him. I also engage with Chicago PD every chance I get. They have tons of great officers.

I also might add that being a Hoosier I regret that Indiana has the loosest gun laws north of Texas and acts as a funnel for illegal weapons being shipped to the Chicago criminals from Indiana. Also, thanks to our Republican super majority (and against law enforcements wishes) the populace here can now carry firearms without any license or background check. Money talks and it will not allow proper legislation for background checks and proper registration. We are the gas on the fire.

Thanks Randalls. While that's true for Indiana and a number of other states, there has been a good deal of progress these past few years on new gun control legislation. Which is what the people, including most Republicans, want. We have to keep going.

I truly feel for the folks that have to live in the areas such as Garfield Park or Austin. If you really cared about improving these areas, we need change. In my opinion, we need greater economic opportunity for young adults growing up there, we need better educational support, and a stronger police presence. Trumps economic opportunity zones I thought were a great idea, but the mayor and leadership has truly failed the city
