it just amazed me how often police complain about respect when these kinds of incidents happens.
They fail to understand respect is earned.

I didn't realize this until I just saw it on "All In" but Daniel Cameron, the Kentucky AG who wouldn't charge the officers, is a Republican who is a "rising star" in the GOP and has big political ambitions beyond the AG position.

I think to the degree that police object to taking these kinds of events and them being generalized as a "police thing", there is validity to the objection. A lot of police officers behave in a way that shows they show the public respect and deserve respect in turn. But I think that too many police officers don't recognize or want to to deal with widely systemic problems in many police organizations. Unfortunately, the reticence to acknowledge the scope of the problems that do exist hurts the perception of them with many in the public at large.
