“Afghan combat vet”? No. “Nuclear power exec”? No. But he’s still the MAGA candidate in Ohio

Campaigning for a northwestern Ohio congressional seat, Republican J.R. Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing “tough” conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.

He may have gone without a shower for 40 days, but it wasn’t because he was in Afghanistan; apparently the closest he got was being a “passenger operations specialist,” loading and unloading planes on an air base in Qatar. And he didn’t do that very well; his Air Force re-enlistment code also indicated that they would not let him sign up with the Air Force again.

Turns out he also lied about his previous employment, promoted Q anon, declared bankruptcy, was at the Capitol on Jan 6.

But he was the Trumpiest candidate, making a lawn mural of the Great Orange One, and taking out two other experienced pols in the GOP primary, and so getting the inside track on a redrawn district where he was favored to beat the Dem incumbent.

The AP story was enough that the national GOP has cut him loose and cancelled a ~$1M ad buy for him entirely.

Still…some Republicans suggest none of this will matter to voters.

“At the end of the day, this will be a question of whether they want Nancy Pelosi leading the House or Kevin McCarthy,” said Tom Davis, a former congressman who led the House Republican campaign arm during George W. Bush’s presidency. “These elections have become less about the person. I wouldn’t say candidates don’t matter, but they don’t matter like they used to.”

It's as though a lot of Republicans like being lied to.

That can happen on both sides of the isle, but it sure seems pretty lopsided.

They do, but they don't think that they are being lied to.

Their elaborate fantasy world (view) is just being confirmed/reinforced.

And you have to be a world-class f***-up to be denied re-enlistment in a period when 50+ year old reservists were being recalled to active duty.

Qatar was declared a combat zone by Pres. Bush II after 9/11. Look for this guy to be swiftboated. Oh, wait, only Republicans do that and only to Democrats.

As long as candidates show the potential to cut taxes, persecute minorities, and own the libs, the MAGA folks don't care if they are liars or criminals or downright insane.

And as long as they get the latter two out of three, it doesn't seem like they care that they don't get the tax cuts, or that if they do, they pale to those received by big business.

The only 'public' in the GOP is in name only.
