Way, way back during the Arab Spring folks were talking about how the Assads in Syria would fall along with other Arab lands.

At the time, I thought it would go the way of Tiananmen Square, troops ruthlessly crushing any opposition with no regard for human lives. I think this is a good model for the protests in Russia and Iran. The Ayatollahs and Putin have absolutely no hesitation against total slaughters against whoever dares to demonstrate against them.

So, no matter what you may read in the news outlets, I think it's just cheerleading and wishful thinking. Women in Iran and the conscious in Russia will be crushed like bugs.

Have any doubts? Ask the 500,000 dead Syrians.

Yes Putin will kill some opponents but no way he can kill even 1/10 of the 500k in Syria.

Russia needs 500,000 to show up at one demonstration so that Putin can't kill/imprison all of them. One problem I see is that a large portion of the most militant against the war have already left Russia. The result is I am not sure there are enough left that are willing to risk death to cause widespread outrage.
