Hurricane Ian and Lemon Drop

Seems like I remember Lemon Drop saying she is living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina now. If so, it looks like hurricane Ian is heading that way. I hope she is and will be okay.

We definitely don't want another Hurricane Hugo.

This is no where near what Hugo was, I believe it was a Cat. 4 when came in. It was still a Cat. 1 200 miles inland over my head. Lived through it.

IIRC LD is somewhere on the coast near Charleston. I'm about 3 miles form the coastline in Myrtle Beach and the storm made landfall just south of here near Georgetown as a Cat1. The rain has been fairly steady but not especially heavy and the wind has been gusty, but we haven't seen anything over about 40mph.

Apparently the storm surge near the coast was fairly big... 4th highest on record.

I hope LD is sitting high and dry somewhere safe.

Lemon Drop is listed as being way inland (northern part of the state) on the Member Map, so I hope that she and her mom are there and not in danger. I'll bet they're getting some rain and wind, though.

If the member map is up to date, then I live about 40 miles west from Lemon Drop.

We had a bit of wind last night and it drizzled a bit earlier this afternoon, but that's all.

I'm not sure where I got the idea that she lived in Myrtle Beach. But I did an advanced forum search for "Lemon Drop" and "Myrtle Beach" and only got a few returns that seemed to indicate she doesn't live there. Oops.

But she is in South Carolina along with Harbourmaster and S. Pupp and it sounds like it wasn't too bad for them so she is probably fine. I hope so anyway.

Thank you Ted for checking in.

Our family has a house on Edisto Beach, which is on a barrier island (also called Edisto) southeast of Charleston. We have heard there is some flooding from Ian, I don't know how bad yet, but this seems like a fairly mild hit. Everything at that beach is designed to weather some flooding.

I've been at my Dad's funeral today. He was 83. Died suddenly of a heart attack, still in shock.

Hope everyone is safe today.

Thank you all very much for the kind words.

It is very strange to wake up in a world that no longer has one of your parents in it.

We had a send off that my Dad would have loved. Dixieland jazz included. Got to do a eulogy for him, so very glad I did.
