Huh. And
Dems were in charge of the presidency and both houses of congress when it happened.
Quote
The U.S. budget deficit was sliced in half for fiscal 2022, the biggest drop in history following two years of huge Covid-related spending.
Though still large in historical terms, the budget shortfall declined to $1.375 trillion, compared to the 2021 deficit of $2.776 trillion.
… The 2022 fiscal year saw $4.896 trillion in revenue against $6.272 trillion in outlays. The outlays number represented about a $550 billion decline in spending but an $850 billion increase in revenue. The [revenue increase] is by far the highest ever for the U.S. government.
In other news I see many state unemployment numbers continuing at historical lows. Republican governors are
claiming credit of course, pointing to their prior fight against Covid restrictions (while overlooking the higher death rates in their states). And of course, they all agree that
Biden’s disastrous economic policies must be stopped.
FWIW, our little island of blue (MN) surrounded by red has
unemployment numbers below that of those surrounding states. Funny, that.
Inflation remains high, but is no longer “skyrocketing”, despite what you hear; it’s actually
declining, and should show continued declines in the next few months as the fed’s rate hikes bite and the year-ago comparison rates catch up.
Will this save the Dems? Perhaps not, but in general, it was nice while it lasted.
