Geez, are ALL Republicans fascists?

Almost certainly not - at least, I hope so! But on the right there seems to be a concerning and increasing embrace of the idea that if elections don’t deliver what they want, then they should just be obtained by other means.

From Heather Cox Richardson’s excellent mailing list:

Quote

In The Federalist, senior editor John Daniel Davidson announced, “We Need To Stop Calling Ourselves Conservatives.” “The conservative project has failed,” he wrote, “and conservatives need to forge a new political identity that reflects our revolutionary moment.”

Oh, thank God! Does that mean they’re abandoning trickle-down economics?

Unfortunately, no:

Quote

Davidson embraces using the power of the government to enforce the principles of the right wing, bending corporations to their will, starving universities that spread “poisonous ideologies,” getting rid of no-fault divorce, and subsidizing families with children. “Wielding government power,” he writes, “will mean a dramatic expansion of the criminal code.”

Abortion is murder and should be treated as such, parents who take their children to drag shows “should be arrested and charged with child abuse,” doctors who engage in gender-affirming interventions “should be thrown in prison and have their medical licenses revoked,” “teachers who expose their students to sexually explicit material should not just be fired but be criminally prosecuted.”

Ahhhh. OooKay, then.

In other news, serving Florida state congressman approvingly tweets this missive:

Quote

“I answer only to God and to History,” Mr Sabatini wrote, quoting the dictator [Francisco Franco] who seized power after winning the Spanish Civil War.

(Personally, I think both God and history have quite adequately rendered their negative verdict on the late Generalissimo.)

To those who questioned his tweet, Representative Sabatini replied:

Quote

"Anyone who criticised the above tweet is extremely un-American," he wrote.

More bon mots and deep thoughts from Congressman Sabatini (including his opinion of Juneteenth) at the link.

Pro-life is just lipstick to get conservative-leaning moderates to kiss the fascist pig.

“I answer only to God and to History,” [Florida state congressman] Mr Sabatini wrote..."

I guess he lied then when he took this oath when taking office in Florida - this the Florida state oath of office:

Quote

I, a citizen of the State of Florida and of the United States of America, and being employed by or an officer of and a recipient of public funds as such employee or officer, do hereby solemnly swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Florida.

Unfortunately, there is feeling or philosophy among many "conservative" GQPers that liberals and Democrats are such a threat to this country that they are justified in gaining and holding power over them by any means necessary.

She seems like the kinda History professor I would've like to have had. I took a lot History classes in HS and some in college, takes a special person to keep me interested though.

I did monitor a prof somewhat unlike her, he described himself as "something of an anarchist, something of a socialist. Maybe a democratic socialist. - Howard Zinn

From the Cox piece cited in the OP related to the notion that Republicans should "embrace the idea of wielding government power as “an instrument of renewal in American life":

Quote

“The necessary task is nothing less than radical and revolutionary,” he writes. And for those worrying that the assumption of such power might be dangerous, “we should attend to it with care after we have won the war.

Yeah, we'll turn into brutal fascists to "renew American life", but once that's done trust us to "attend" to the peace as non-dangerous fascists.

When you say "monitor," does that imply attending his class?

I think the more commonly used term is "audit."

It is what it is.
