Shelf life for the Republic is indeed short. It either gets replaced by something better or something worse. And it's hard to believe it can get any better than it was… MAGA? No, greatness comes from shining a light on injustice and then doing something about it. The great injustice here is that Americans will walk themselves right into the wringer and still be smirking when they squeeze out one giant orange turd.

I don't know if "good" is the best descriptor. I'm slightly (but not very) hopeful that "prescient" is the operative adjective. I am quaking in my boots about the coming election (and the next one after that). This is exactly how the nazis came to power.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

What I don’t get is that we have been inundated with anti-fascist anti-Nazi history, books, movies, and TV shows for 80 years. How did it not take?

Short attention spans.

”Attention training is said to be part of education, particularly in the way students are trained to remain focused on a topic of observation or discussion for extended periods, developing listening and analytical skills in the process.”

Eh. I don't think it's that people want to be associated with N*sis, just that if an issue or topic doesn't have an effect on their life, it's not a problem. Laziness, as Maher alludes, and dumbness.

The frog boiling in water.

Nazis? We don’t have any death camps. No stars sewn on clothing. Nobody has slaughtered millions. We’re just fine. This is not that.

Yet.

The apparent contrast is too stark for the average person to believe it’s really that bad. At least it was before Roe got a bullet in the head. THAT turned a few heads.

But we still have enough distractions, good and bad, to keep us from focusing on how far and fast we’re sliding.

We live in times where Joe and Jill Sixpack can pull up an app and have a minion fetch a Big Mac Attack Sack to their very front door. And we have to worry about if that crazy billionaire guy is going to ruin Twitter. And have you seen the prices on streaming TV channels?

Autocrats and zealots? Sure, there’s a few wack jobs and idiots and Herschel Walker. But My Guy is going to protect me from Them.

THEY
  • want sneak into MY country and to steal the job I hate at Squeeze’emDry from me
  • want me to wear a paper mask in public and take ’medicine’ the YouTube Guy and my uncle on Facebook say is dangerous; might even have Squeeze’emDry mind control particles in it
  • want me let people be different than me in scary ways, let children get their junk cut off and holes sewn up when they’re like two years old
  • want to let women run around willy nilly deciding to rip babies out of themselves so satanic celebrities can take’em, smash them up with confiscated guns and use them for pizza toppings at pedophile sexy parties
  • WANT. MY. GUNS.

Besides, if we don’t vote for a Naz… one of My Guys, Hillary might win the election.

I know she was dead, but she’s back again, isn’t she? I’m pretty sure I read it on Parler.

A priest, a rabbit and a minister walk into a bar.
The bartender asks the rabbit "what'll ya have?"
The rabbit says "I dunno. I'm only here because of Autocorrect.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
As of July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now available by simply dialing 988. The previous number, 1-800-273-8255, will remain active.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

So, Wednesday will tell the tale?

@#$%& that guy. Even in a worst case scenario, Biden still holds the veto pen, and any kind of impeachment or investigation or whatever will end up in a cul-de-sac. Even it goes down that way, maybe it's the wake up call non-voters need to get up off of their butts.

I’m not concerned about 2022, it’s 2024 that worries me.

They’ll be standing around the block to kiss his back ring to get to be his running mate. My money is on Nikki Haley.

Nah. Haley's not obsequious enough.

...and he'd be beyond happy to suck on Mr. Golden Shower's toadstool-shaped appendage, unlike most of the other candidates.
