Big Trump donors run for the hills

Missed this 3-day old story, which is behind a paywall, although Apple News let me see it without an Apple News membership:

It’s the morning after Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign announcement and major donors are already running for the hills. Blackstone co-founder and CEO Stephen Schwarzman declared that he will not be backing Donald Trump in his renewed bid for the presidency.

…It didn’t end there. Later on Wednesday, longtime Trump ally and billionaire heir to the Estée Lauder fortune Ronald Lauder said he wouldn’t be supporting the former president’s latest White House run.

… Last week, Citadel’s billionaire founder Ken Griffin revealed to Politico that he is dropping his support for the former president and instead endorsing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis if he chooses to run. “For a litany of reasons, I think it’s time to move on to the next generation,”

Gee, ya think?

It’s up to you, Deplorables. Trump isn’t going to do all this for free, so dig deep. He wants your bux.

Donald Trump announcing his first run for the presidency:

Quote

“I don’t need anybody’s money. It’s nice. I don’t need anybody’s money. I’m using my own money. I’m not using the lobbyists. I’m not using donors. I don’t care. I’m really rich, I’ll show you that in a second. And by the way, I’m not even saying that in a braggadocios … that’s the kind that’s the kind of thinking you need for this country.”

He's rich. He don't need nobody's money.

Seriously, even though he's probably made several times more running for and being president than he spent of his own money, he has always been pretty heavily bankrolled by smaller donors, so even though having these heavy hitters bail on him is probably somewhat distressful (I hope so), it probably won't change his decision making much. Now if his small donor donations were to tank, then he would almost surely freak out.

‘Disloyal’ would be an interesting framing for Musk to use for firing employees with technical disagreements and/or a position that the site should have some limits on egregious propagation of disinformation and hate speech.

A priest, a rabbit and a minister walk into a bar.
The bartender asks the rabbit "what'll ya have?"
The rabbit says "I dunno. I'm only here because of Autocorrect.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
As of July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now available by simply dialing 988. The previous number, 1-800-273-8255, will remain active.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
