He is bringing the air of class and distinction to Twitter that The Donald is accustomed to.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
As of July 16, 2022, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now available by simply dialing 988. The previous number, 1-800-273-8255, will remain active.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Its a srange place to be:
Lots of Musk Haters hated him for Making Electric Cars viable
Same reason I admired him, myself.

Lots of Musk fans admire him for his work on SpaceX. I count myself among those as well.

Lets be real. Tesla is never more that an a toy without him.
SpaceX never gets off the ground.

I dunno what's going on with Twitter.

San Antonio, TX (in the old city)

"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke
“Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented." - Eli Weisel

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." - Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form. It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it." - Billy Graham 1981

"Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise" - Barry Goldwater

Of course, this is simplistic but I think at core is right:

Electric cars, SpaceX - physics

Twitter - psychology

^^^I’m with both of the previous posters. Twitter is outside of his wheelhouse. Eventually even he realized this because he tried to pull out of it, but of course it was too late.

I think the walk away was $14B?

he tried to pull out of it, but of course it was too late.

Because that's worked so well for him in the past.

I thought it was or could be more than $1B but less that $14B.

There's the 'breakup fee' of $1B, providing there's a valid reason for wanting out, but not impending 'buyer's remorse'.

Lacking a qualifying reason to get off the hook with just the pocket link of $1B, he could have been sued for breach of contract, yes?

That could have cost him more than $1B, but I'd think less than half of $14B.

Legal fees would shift that some.

Musk did serious damage to the Twitter brand while seeking a way out, I suspect the possibility of future defamation awards were part of the decision to swallow the 44b purchase.

No, it was not that much. The $14 billion comes from people adding up the amounts of stock he was selling in case the courts forced him to go through with the deal. Musk was trying to get out of it without paying anything. To be honest his final decision looked more like a petulant admission that he was about to lose in court and did not want that to happen and be told he had to complete the purchase.

The actual "walk away" cost was $1 billion plus some provisions for damages to be paid to Twitter for costs related to the purchase agreement or fiscal damages caused by Musk's actions.
