And the House just received Pres. Trump’s magnificent tax returns from the US Treasury

The U.S. Treasury has handed over former president Donald Trump’s tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee, a department spokesperson told The Washington Post on Wednesday.

This action comes after numerous judges ruled that the U.S. House has the power to request Trump’s returns from the Internal Revenue Service. Last week, the Supreme Court cleared the way for Trump’s tax returns to be handed to Congress denying without comment the former president’s last-ditch effort to block such a move.

“Treasury has complied with last week’s court decision,” a Treasury spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court’s brief order last week meant that the Treasury Department had to quickly hand over six years of tax records from Trump and some of his companies to the House Ways and Means Committee.

An aide said the committee’s Democratic members will meet Thursday and be briefed on the status of the case.

Trump has long attempted to keep these documents from Congress, arguing that Democratic lawmakers are on a fishing expedition designed to embarrass him politically.

The Supreme Court generally has been unreceptive to assertions from Trump that he should be allowed to keep records private and that he was immune to investigation while in office. The justices in 2020 upheld Congress’s right to subpoena that information as long as certain conditions were met.

Democrats began the legal battle to get the tax returns after taking the House majority in 2019. It is unlikely that the records will be made public — generally, it is unlawful for the government to release tax documents about an individual taxpayer.

But they can release a bullet-point summary, and they can introduce portions into the House floor-records which ARE public records.

Don't be surprised if they find a way to confirm that the NYT Trump tax disclosures were all true.

So should we start a poll on how long until they're leaked in their entirety?

Well, they already were leaked in their entirety, to the NYT. Trump and minions claimed it was all fake news.

It seems to me that all the House has to do is say after examination of the returns, there have found nothing different than what has already been released in the press.

Not quite that simple. The NYT didn't release the tax returns because they didn't want to expose their source. All we have from them is their analysis, which probably doesn't cover everything the investigation is aimed at.

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Holy moly!

I tried getting through Trump’s Taxes Show Chronic Losses and Years of Income Tax Avoidance and only made it through about 40% before my eyes glazed over and a severe headache slammed me.

This needs to be a 10-part documentary with experts explaining it like I'm a six-year old, as that's how I feel trying to navigate the labyrinth of profits and losses, payments and refunds.

Or maybe it's a shell game.

Of course, if the returns are responsible for serving up some actual jail time, then I'll takes some Excedrin and sleep like a baby.
