Mark Meadows, who was chief of staff to President Donald Trump, will not be charged for voter fraud related to his 2020 registration and absentee vote in North Carolina, the state’s chief law enforcement official announced Friday.

Meadows and his wife, Debra, were under investigation after media reports that the former North Carolina congressman’s voter registration listed a mobile home in Scaly Mountain, N.C., that he had never owned, stayed at or visited. But authorities were shown proof that Meadows and his wife leased the home, Debra did stay there for short periods, and there was no evidence the couple “knowingly swore to false information considering the signed lease,” said Attorney General Josh Stein (D).

Meadows is “explicitly excepted from certain residency requirements as a result of his service to the federal government,” Stein added.

If that's the law, then that's the right decision. If he's stretching the law, then I'd wonder why a Democratic state AG would do that.

North Carolina has pretty liberal laws for residency for the purposes of voting.

All that he had to do to escape prosecution was to demonstrate that he had a domicile and raise a little doubt that he had the intention of returning.

...Even though he didn't return and voted from Virginia in the 2021 election.

Yeah, aside from the legal "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" standard, any common sense look at this tells you it reeks of contempt for the idea that you should actually be a resident in the area where you are voting.

Meadows is likely guilty of way worse than fudging an address on a voter registration. Get him for that stuff.

If we had popular vote instead of Electoral College, it wouldn’t matter where you vote. As long as you voted in only one place.
